What to do before deleting old posts on X

Deleting old posts can clean up your public footprint, but it is still permanent. Before you start, take a few minutes to save what matters and understand what deletion can and cannot remove.

Save anything you might want later

If a post matters, save a screenshot, copy the text, or download your X archive before cleaning. Once a post is deleted through X, treat it as gone from your account.

Decide what should stay

Keep list ideas
  • Helpful posts that still represent your work.
  • Announcements, testimonials, or portfolio links.
  • Posts with personal meaning you may want to preserve privately.
  • Recent posts that support your current profile direction.

Understand what deletion does not control

Deleting a post removes it from your account and X surfaces, but copies, screenshots, quotes, cached pages, or third-party reposts may still exist elsewhere. Cleanup improves your profile, but it is not a full internet eraser.

Start with a supervised session

  1. Open the right profile tab.

Make sure you are cleaning the exact account and section you intended.

  2. Set a small first limit.

Verify the workflow before a larger cleanup.

  3. Refresh and inspect.

Check results after each pass before continuing.

Start cleanup prepared

Use CleanMyX after you know what to keep, what to remove, and how much to process in one session.
